Lance Garrison, Ph.D.
Dr. Garrison was born and raised in Texas, where he spent most of his childhood in the far west region of Texas in the small town of Alpine. In 1993 he moved to North Texas where he completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of North Texas. Dr. Garrison graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master's degree in School Psychology (2001) and a Ph.D. in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine (2003). He completed his pre-doctoral internship at St. James Hospital and Healthcare System in Olympia Fields, Illinois with rotations in outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient psychiatric care, emergency department psychiatric triage, and medical/surgical psychological consultation. Dr. Garrison's post-doctoral fellowship experience was completed at Cook Children’s Hospital, where he conducted comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescents, and at Lewisville Independent School District, where he conducted comprehensive psychological, learning disability, and autism evaluations, as well as, designed comprehensive behavior intervention plans for children and adolescents. Dr. Garrison is a licensed psychologist and a licensed specialist in school psychology.
As a pediatric psychologist, Dr. Garrison examines how biological, social and psychological factors influence health and illness. His primary area of focus is the treatment of children and adolescents with behavioral, emotional, and social difficulties. Additionally, because of his background in health psychology and behavioral medicine he brings expertise to the understanding and treatment of psychological and behavioral problems that arise from challenges with physical health issues. It is common for children and adolescents with challenging health conditions to experience anxiety, depression, behavioral problems and a variety of challenges arising from the interaction of their health condition and their unique situational and personality characteristics.
Dr. Garrison will work with you and your child or adolescent, as a team, to understand the challenges you face and develop a plan to clearly and directly address those challenges. Working together as a team provides your child or adolescent with important skills and effective strategies aimed at feeling better, while also building your skills and confidence to provide the support necessary for sustained improvement.
